The National Institute of Oceanography is one of the constituent laboratories of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research. NIO is the largest oceanographic laboratory in the Indian Ocean Region focus on oceanography of the waters around India. While the headquarters of the institute are at Dona Paula, Goa, NIO has regional centres located at Kochi, Mumbai and Visakhapatnam.
